@Lion – Background positioning with this PNG fix is impossible under IE6, but should be fine under IE7+. Because this script is for IE5/6 and nothing above, you should not have to worry about it’s limitations in IE7+.

With that said, a great alternative solution to this fix script is to convert PNG 24bit to PNG 8bit. The advancements in conversion from 24bit to 8bit with no quality loss has taken been leaps and bounds since this article was written (However strangely not through Photoshop).

Hello Devin, you state that background positions with PNG24 alpha images and IE6 do not work. Do they work with IE7, IE8 and IE9 as long as I am using the above-listed javascript fix? Thanks for the information!

You have two options, use the JavaScript and have a fix for PNG24 alpha, or don’t use PNG24 alpha but rather 8bit alpha PNG.

We had this PNG transparency problem while building News website http://www.livepage.info and now using here mentioned script, which works perfectly thru all png-s on the site.

This works, though not with roll-over images… I created an image link and when you hover over it, the replacement image still has a white background (no transparency)… any ideas?
